Creatinging Your First EC2 Instance

  1. Create Amazon account - it will charge you $1 but that charge will fall off.

  2. Navigate to EC2 service

  3. Select your AZ

  8. Click the first drop down and select "Create a new key pair" then name the keypair "wp-keypair".

  9. A file will download called "wp-keypair.pem".

  10. In terminal move that file to your root directory.

  11. We have to add permissions to the file to use it so run then click "Launch Instance"

  12. You should see your EC2 instance dashboard and an Instance ID with an Instance state saying "Pending" followed by "Running".

  13. Click the Instance ID link in blue and an instance summary will appear. Select the "Security" tab https://share.drewlearns.com/04uJrqdl.

    You can also find your public IP address in this screen. From that IP, you can point your domain to it, I'd strongly recommend doing that to take the full benefit of this guide. If you chose not to, you'll need to use your AWS public domain or IP address in the steps that follow instead of example.com.

  15. Return to the EC2 dashboard and select the Instance you just edited. Click it's check box then Actions > Connect.

  16. Click the "SSH Client" tab. There is an example snippet, copy paste it into your terminal and press return. Type "yes" and press return again to acknowledge connecting. You are now SSH'd into your Instance.

PHP installation

PHP is our backend server language for WordPress. Let's get it installed.

  1. Let's confirm amazon-linux-extras, if you don't see a directory output then you'll have to install using - I think this comes standard now, though I'm not positive.

I personally prefer having my site as secure and performant as possible so I like the latest version where possible. I recognize some plugins/themes don't support latest versions of plugins/themes, in those cases I'd dump the plugin/theme over instead of lay blame on the PHP version as being the issue. I don't want plugins installed that don't operate on currently supported PHP versions myself.

  1. Install PHP 7.4 using the following command:

Install MariaDB (MySQL) & Apache Webserver

  1. Install it, but make sure to agree to installation.

  4. Verify it's running by going to your EC2 Dashboard and clicking the instance ID link and then going to the IP address in your browser, it should look like this:

Secure your Database

  1. Secure and test your database connection:

    them. This is intended only for testing, and to make the installation

    production environment.

  6. Normally, root should only be allowed to connect from 'localhost'. This
    ensures that someone cannot guess at the root password from the network.

Currently your site is lacking connectivity to the EC2's file system. We need to add FTP or SFTP. This will allow us to install plugins and more. You may be curious or interested in the ability to upload your file system to S3 and since I'm currently over my PUTS limit this month, I'll be holding out on a tutorial about this for a little while.   • Now, It’ll ask for the type of storage like aws, azure, box, google drive etc to configure. I have chosen to use azure blog storage.
  • Now it’ll ask for the details of azure blob storage like account name, key, end point (Keep it blank) etc.
  • To list all the contained created on Azure portal under this account name –

The Good thing about rclone sync is that it’ll download the updated content only. In the way, you can play with AWS storage to sync the file. Apart from all these commands, rclone has given us the facility to copy, move, delete commands to do the respective job in the appropriate way.

Now, one can use the rsync command to copy/sync/backup the contents between different directories locally and remotely as well. It is widely used command to transfer the partial transfer (difference of data in files) between source and destination node.

Configure SSL for External HTTP Traffic to and from Tableau Server

You can configure Tableau Server to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encrypted communications on all external HTTP traffic. Setting up SSL ensures that access to Tableau Server is secure and that sensitive information passed between the server and Tableau clients—such as Tableau Desktop, the REST API, analytics extensions, and so on—is protected. Steps on how to configure the server for SSL are described this topic; however, you must first acquire a certificate from a trusted authority, and then import the certificate files into Tableau Server.

Mutual SSL authentication is not supported on Tableau Mobile.

SSL certificate requirements

Acquire an Apache SSL certificate from a trusted authority (for example, Verisign, Thawte, Comodo, GoDaddy). You can also use an internal auslogics windows slimmer key issued by your company. Wildcard certificates, which allow you to use SSL with many host names within the same domain, are also supported.

When you acquire an SSL certificate for external communication to and from Tableau Server, follow these guidelines and requirements:

  • All certificate files must be valid PEM-encoded X509 certificates with the extension .

  • Use a SHA-2 (256 or 512 bit) SSL certificate. Most browsers no longer connect to a server that presents an SHA-1 certificate.

  • In addition to the certificate file, you must also acquire a corresponding SSL certificate key file. The key file must be a valid RSA or DSA private key file (with the extension by convention).

    The chain file is a concatenation of all of the certificates that form the certificate chain for the server certificate. All certificates in the file must be x509 PEM-encoded and the file must have a extension (not ).

  • For multiple sub-domains, Tableau Server supports wildcard certificates.

  • Verify that the domain, host name, or IP address that clients use to connect to Tableau Server is included in the Subject Alternative Names (SAN) field. Many clients (Tableau Prep, Chrome and Firefox browsers, etc) require valid entry in the SAN field to establish a secure connection.

Note: If you plan to configure Tableau Server for single-sign on using SAML, see Using SSL certificate and key files for SAML in the SAML requirements to help determine whether to use the same certificate files for both SSL and SAML.

Configuring SSL for a Cluster

You can configure a Tableau Server cluster to use SSL. If the initial node is the only one running the gateway process (which it does by default), you need to configure SSL only on that node, using the steps described in this topic.

SSL with multiple gateways

A highly available Tableau Server cluster can include multiple gateways, fronted by a load balancer. If you are configuring this type of cluster for SSL, you have the following choices:

  • Configure the load balancer for SSL: Traffic is encrypted from the client web browsers to the load balancer. Traffic from the load balancer to the Tableau Server gateway processes is not encrypted. No SSL configuration in Tableau Server is required by you. It’s all handled by the load balancer.

  • Configure Tableau Server for SSL: Traffic is encrypted from the client web browsers to the load balancer, and from the load balancer to the Tableau Server gateway processes. For more information, continue to the following section.

Additional configuration information for Tableau Server cluster environments

When you want to use SSL on all Tableau Server nodes that run a gateway process, you complete the following steps.

  1. Configure the external load balancer for SSL passthrough.

    Or if you want to use a port other than 443, you can configure the external load balancer to terminate the non-standard port from the client. In this scenario, you would then configure the load balancer to connect to Tableau Server over port 443. For assistance, refer to the documentation provided for the load balancer.

  2. Make sure the SSL certificate is issued for the load balancer’s host name.

  3. Configure the initial Tableau Server node for SSL.

SSL certificate and key files will be distributed to each node as part of the configuration process.

Prepare the environment

When you get the certificate files from the CA, save them to a location accessible by Tableau Server, and note the names of the certificate .crt and .key files and the location where you save them. You will need to provide this information to Tableau Server when you enable SSL.

Configure SSL on Tableau Server

Use the method you’re most comfortable with.

  1. Open TSM in a browser:
